INSPIRATION

INSPIRATION; OVERDOSE, ABUSE AND IMBALANCE

Every human needs some form of encouragements at various points in his or her life and as such, the role of inspiration can never be overemphasized. However, just like most concepts that govern humanity, the concept of inspiration has largely been abused leading to imbalance in the lives of many.

What is inspiration?

According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, “inspiration is the action or power of moving the intellect or emotions.” The Collins English Dictionary defines the concept as “a feeling of enthusiasm you get from someone or something, which gives you new and creative ideas.” There are many definitions of this concept that we can’t possibly fill in here.

As stated earlier, the matter of inspiration has been abused over time and has caused many people to lead imbalance lives. Just like The Collins English Dictionary rightly puts, inspiration is drawn from people or things meaning that people are inspirational agents to other people. In other words, one person inspires the other. It is therefore safe to say that the inspiration given out comes from experiences already gotten—most of the times. For instance; a father inspires his son on the matter of marriage. He most likely will tell him things that spun from his own personal experience.

While this is good, it also has a downside to it. The inspiration given out—perhaps in terms of spoken words, written words, sung words—were formed in accordance to specific situations therefore, may not be very effective when handed down to another whose situation isn’t the same or similar to that of the original person. Simply put; such inspiration is given out of context.

The danger to this is that the receiver may not know how to filter what he or she receives and will blindly execute the so-called new ideas which will definitely not give the desired results.

Apart from taking inspirational materials and executing them out of context, another abuse of this concept is mostly found in the usage of “inspirational quotes.” An inspirational quote is merely a key and not the key to success in life—you may need to read that again.

There are a million and more inspirational quotes out there. The effectiveness of one relies on its relationship with another. One quote cannot bring about success without the help of two or more quotes. Therefore, to be correctly inspired is to have a network of identical quotes working in you.

Finally, it is imperative for one to have self-control in the matters of collecting or acquiring inspirations. As earlier said, humans are agents of inspiration to other humans, and each agent mostly speaks out of personal experiences. Listening to too many agents—especially those with lots of differences in experience—can be a disaster.

I have personally seen people who do not know when to sit back. They are always high and mighty whenever a conference is called. They lack the ability to create and follow a pattern so they end up acquiring too many unwanted inspirational materials. It’s like buying all the spices in the grocery shop and using them all at ones—of course you know the outcome.

Do not use inspirational materials out of context.

Do not single out a particular inspirational material as the best, they work hand in gloves.

Do not seek to acquire all, seek to acquire the necessary.

ANOTHER FEMINIST POEM

Hello Mr . Man!   Now I need you to listen carefully to another feminist poem As a woman I'm going to tell you how strong I am,  How independent I can be,   And most of all, how opinionated I assume myself to be  But not like you normally hear it.  I am independent enough to know where I'm lacking  But sometimes I need you to point it out because I forget Independent enough to get myself what I want, when I want But I'll still love a little surprise from you...  It warms my independent little heart  I'll pin my feet on the ground and say that when the wind comes Me, myself and I are gonna keep my feet steady But I want a hype man to tell me I can do it  I have opinions too, it bruises my ego when you don't let me talk Oh you don't think I have an ego? Her name's Dora She's always exploring and trying to find things that are lost or hidden  She doesn't take no for an answer But she's always seeking help Mr. Man, ...

SARA

As Tife  walked home with a spring in his step sometimes skipping along the way, he kept smiling to himself. He couldn't believe the long awaited time had finally come. The scales covering their eyes were slowly falling off, they were beginning to see the truth. It was his dream come true, but of course he couldn't have imagined it happening this way, not even in his wildest dreams. It had been Tife against them all. They had pushed him aside, claiming he was envious of his friend Tolu. It's common knowledge Tolu was much more prosperous than Tife, in fact he was a well known philanthropist, a young man who was doing well for himself, he had risen against all odds but remained humble and loyal to his hometown.  Only Tife knew it was all a facade. He knew his friend more than anyone else. He believed there was something behind his friend's benevolence and was determined to find out. Being the good friend he was to Tolu, he followed him around like a puppy, dancing ...

CAPELESS HEROES

You know this one's for you. You always smile at me and tell me it's okay when we know deep down it's not but I find a way to believe you anyway. You stand atop the tallest buildings so you can spot the evil from a mile away and protect us from it but we've never really taken the time to ask if you might be scared of heights. I see your designer eye bags underneath your eyes from sleepless nights when you watch, read, pray, fight, to make sure it's okay. We hope you're okay. You're not a bulletproof vest but you took a conscious lifelong oath to always take a hit for us if need be. We see you. We are praying for you everyday. Thank you for being a light. This one's for you who throw yourselves on the frontline of battle. To our Capeless Heroes.  ATTENTION!!!!! SALUTE!!!! TRAMPLED LINEAGE

Many are  the numbers. Standing tall are valiant men. The weapons their hands clinched to were hell scaring, wagging it high with a sense of worth and understanding. They broke chains and released souls. We  call them 'Bro Fire'. Behind them were some creatures more fair and beautiful to behold. They are called 'The Women'. Some stand aware of the battle while some sat looking on. Only very few–which can be truly numbered–were seen joining in the battle as some men with ancient Spirit of wisdom were cheering them up. As the encouragement grew in sincerity and deep reverence, so was the instrument of the fight–women. It became sharper and truly deadly to the enemies. They fought along side with the men, who never left their eardrums without lifting words. A lot of skimming of darkness that these Gideons never saw where totally uncovered. As I saw the massive success that these few women had brought to the entire Kingdom, I was moved to run back to the camp where ...
